Delhi NCR Sizzles: Residents Struggle as Heatwave Grips the Capital, above 40 degrees Celsius for eight consecutive days, recording hottest June in decades

Delhi-NCR is currently in the throes of an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius for eight consecutive days, recording hottest June in decades.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red” alert, predicting temperatures to hit a blistering 45 degrees Celsius.

Residents are feeling the brunt of this merciless summer, with many turning to social media to express their frustrations and share tales of discomfort. One lifelong Delhi resident remarked, “I’ve experienced many summers in Delhi, but this year is unbearable. Even a short walk outside feels daunting.”

Social media has become a platform for residents to vent their woes. From boiling tap water to malfunctioning ACs and struggling refrigerators, coping mechanisms are falling short. “This is the first time I’ve seen such scorching heat in Delhi NCR in my 20 years,” lamented one Twitter user.

Even attempts to escape to cooler climes have proven futile. A visitor to Mussoorie, seeking respite from the heat, found conditions equally unbearable. “Please don’t rely on vlogs and blogs; the heat here is as bad as Delhi/Mumbai,” they warned.

Beyond discomfort, the extreme temperatures are raising serious health concerns and challenging the city’s infrastructure. Reports of people ending up in ICU due to heat-related illnesses highlight the severity of the situation.

Amidst these challenges, calls for environmental action are growing louder. “It’s time to rethink our concrete jungles and prioritize tree planting,” urged one concerned resident.

As Delhi continues to sizzle, residents are bracing themselves for more hot days ahead while hoping for some relief in the near future.
