Vedant Agarwal Case: In Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, a 17-year-old unlawfully drove his father’s Porsche, resulting in a tragic accident that claimed two lives. The father, a prominent real estate developer, was apprehended in Aurangabad, as reported by NDTV on May 21.
The developer has been charged by Pune Police under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Section 75 addresses the willful neglect of a child, while Section 77 pertains to providing intoxicating substances to a minor.
On May 20, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) granted bail to the minor, who was found driving under the influence. As part of the bail conditions, the minor is required to write an essay on the accident and work with traffic police for 15 days.
Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar informed ANI that the bar manager and bar owner who served alcohol to the minor on the day of the incident have also been arrested.
Two Families Devastated
In Birsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, the family of 24-year-old IT engineer Aneesh Awadhiya was devastated upon receiving his body. His father, Atmaram Awadhiya, expressed profound grief and anger over the bail granted to the minor driver. “Two people have died in this accident. This is completely wrong. We want strict punishment. The bail granted to the accused should be cancelled,” he said.
Aneesh’s uncle, Akhilesh Awadhiya, described the minor’s high-speed driving as “murder, not an accident.”
The second victim, 24-year-old IT professional Ashwini Koshta, was mourned by her family in Jabalpur. Her father, Suresh Koshta, called for strict action to ensure that such incidents serve as a lesson. “She completed her studies in Pune and got a job there,” he said.
Ashwini’s uncle, Jugal Kishor Koshta, condemned the quick bail granted to the minor. “We are in shock. It is condemnable that he got bail in 15 hours. He and his parents should be investigated. We will discuss the matter once Ashwini’s last rites are over. She had so many dreams, she wanted to excel in her career and make her parents proud. We cannot express our grief,” he told NDTV.
