Swati Maliwal Speaks Out on Alleged Assault, Files Police Report

Swati Maliwal Records Statement in Court on Alleged Assault by Delhi CM’s PA Bibhav Kumar

Swati Maliwal, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Rajya Sabha MP, arrived at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court around noon on Friday, May 17, to provide her statement regarding an alleged assault by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s PA, Bibhav Kumar.

Maliwal shared her initial reaction to the incident on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing dismay over the ordeal she faced. She stated in Hindi, “What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope that appropriate action will be taken.”

In her post, she also expressed gratitude for the support she received during the challenging time and addressed those who attempted to tarnish her reputation, wishing them well.

On Thursday, Maliwal broke her silence by filing an FIR, accusing Bibhav Kumar of assaulting her at the chief minister’s residence. She lodged the complaint three days after the incident, detailing a range of assaults from slaps and punches to kicks in the stomach and chest, along with the use of a stick. A medical examination confirmed internal injuries on her face.

A magistrate is set to record Maliwal’s statement under Section 164 during the police investigation, prior to the trial. The police are reviewing footage from all eight CCTV cameras outside the CM’s house as part of the probe.

NCW Chief Rekha Sharma stated that they have requested an Action Taken Report from the Police and noted that FIR charges have been filed. Additionally, a medical examination of Swati Maliwal was conducted, and Bibhav has not responded to their notice.

Among the 10 police teams investigating the matter, four are focused on locating the personal secretary.
