Modi and Meloni’s G7 Selfie and Video Go Viral, Highlighting Bilateral Talks

Modi and Meloni’s Viral Selfie and Video from G7 Summit Garner Social Media Attention

A selfie and video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni at the G7 summit have gone viral on social media platforms. Captured on Friday in Italy’s Apulia, the selfie shows both leaders smiling, while the video depicts them waving at the camera with Meloni cheerfully saying, “Hello from the Melodi team.”

The term “Melodi” gained popularity on social media following PM Modi and Meloni’s bilateral meeting last year. Sharing the moment on X, Meloni posted, “Hi friends, from #Melodi.” PM Modi responded warmly, “Long live India-Italy friendship!”

This isn’t the first time their camaraderie has caught attention. Last year, a selfie of the two leaders at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai also went viral, with Meloni captioning it, “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi.”

Modi and Meloni Discuss Bilateral Relations at G7 Summit

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held discussions on strengthening bilateral relations. This marked PM Modi’s first foreign visit after securing his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

Ms. Meloni congratulated PM Modi on his reelection and expressed her gratitude for his participation in the G7 Outreach summit. PM Modi, in turn, appreciated the successful conclusion of the event.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the ongoing high-level political dialogue and reviewed the progress of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership. They discussed expanding trade and economic ties, particularly in areas such as clean energy, manufacturing, space, science and technology, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals to build resilient supply chains.

They also welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Industrial Property Rights (IPR), which provides a framework for cooperation on patents, designs, and trademarks.

Additionally, PM Modi and Ms. Meloni talked about enhancing bilateral defense and security cooperation, aiming to further develop defense industrial collaboration.
