Arrest of Prajwal Revanna on 31st May: Next Steps in the Legal Process

Prajwal Revanna, a Janata Dal (Secular) leader and the candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, was arrested after landing at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

The arrest occurred early Friday morning following his return from Germany. Revanna, who is accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, left for Germany on April 27, the day after polling in his constituency. Controversial videos allegedly depicting him committing the assaults surfaced the same day.

Details of the Arrest

Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, was on Lufthansa flight LH0764 from Munich. Upon landing, he was handed over to police officials waiting at the airport. Sources indicate that he will be taken to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office, where he will spend the night in custody with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case.

Immediate Legal Procedures

A medical examination will be conducted as part of the legal protocol. Additionally, Prajwal Revanna must be presented before a magistrate within 24 hours of his arrest.

Bail Proceedings

Revanna’s anticipatory bail petition, which has now become a regular bail plea, is scheduled for a hearing today. Concurrently, the verdict on the anticipatory bail plea of his mother, Bhavani Revanna, is also expected. The outcomes of these hearings will significantly influence the next steps in the legal process for both Prajwal Revanna and his mother.
