Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Saturday that there is now peace along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing this stability to Pakistan’s fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he believes has deterred them from opening fire.
Shah made these remarks during an election rally in Poonch district to support BJP candidate Murtaza Khan.
He praised the BJP-led government for eliminating terrorism by empowering youth with education and technology instead of violence, asserting that his administration would ensure that guns do not dominate the hills of the Jammu region. “We will build more bunkers along the borders for the safety of our people. Let’s recall the cross-border firings of the 1990s. Are we seeing that today?” he questioned.
He remarked that previous leaders were intimidated by Pakistan, but now the situation has reversed, with Pakistan fearing Modi. “If they dare to fire, they will receive a strong response,” Shah asserted.
The BJP leader is on a three-day tour and is scheduled to participate in four more rallies in Surankote, Thanamandi, Rajouri, and Akhnoor.
These assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir mark the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of the former state into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh—in August 2019. The first phase of voting took place on September 18, with the second phase scheduled for September 25 and the final phase on October 1. Election results will be announced on October 8.
