Tampering with Railway Track in Surat Averted by Alert Lineman

On Saturday, unidentified individuals allegedly tampered with a railway track in Gujarat’s Surat district, removing fish plates and loosening numerous bolts in a bid to derail trains, according to police.

The sabotage was uncovered before any train could pass over the damaged section, as a lineman discovered the alterations and promptly notified railway authorities in the early morning hours.

Superintendent of Police Hitesh Joysar reported that two fish plates, which secure the ends of the rails, were removed and placed on a parallel track, while approximately 40 to 50 bolts were loosened.

Deputy Superintendent of Police RR Sarvaiya stated that the lineman found the tampering around 5:30 AM and alerted the railway administration. Railway engineers and staff quickly arrived at the scene to repair the damage, allowing train operations to resume.

Sarvaiya confirmed that both the railway and local police have initiated an investigation, and a case is being filed. Inspector PH Jadeja of the Kim police station noted that the incident was clearly an attempt to derail a train, but an accident was averted thanks to the vigilance of railway personnel. Once the repairs were completed, train services resumed normally.
