Political Showdown: BJP’s Rajeev Chandrashekhar Takes Legal Action Against Tharoor for Defamation

Amid Election Tensions, Accusations of Bribery Spark Court Battle in Thiruvananthapuram

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has acknowledged a defamation complaint from BJP leader Rajeev Chandrashekhar against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The complaint is based on statements Tharoor made during a national television interview, where he allegedly accused Chandrashekhar of bribing voters in Thiruvananthapuram ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Chandrashekhar claims that these accusations damaged his reputation and influenced the electoral outcome. The court, led by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Divya Malhotra, has allowed an amended complaint and scheduled a hearing for pre-summoning evidence on October 4, 2024. Chandrashekhar is represented by a team of senior advocates, including Pramod Kumar Dubey. The case involves allegations under IPC sections 500 (defamation) and 171G (false statement to influence elections).
