“Biden’s Candid Moment: ‘China Testing Us’ Sparks Diplomatic Dialogue at QUAD Summit”
At the recent QUAD summit, US President Joe Biden was inadvertently caught on a hot mic expressing concerns about China’s aggressive posturing. As reporters were departing, Biden remarked that Chinese President Xi Jinping is “looking to buy himself some diplomatic space” to further China’s interests.
He noted that China continues to “behave aggressively,” challenging the QUAD nations across various fronts, including economic and technological arenas. Biden stressed the importance of intense diplomacy amid rising competition among nations.
The summit included leaders from India, Japan, and Australia, namely Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Following Biden’s comments, a senior US official sought to downplay the incident, asserting that the sentiments expressed were consistent with previous statements and reflecting the administration’s stance. “There’s no need to elaborate; our internal discussions align with our public statements,” the official explained.
