In a significant development in Chhattisgarh, an intense encounter between security forces and Maoists in the hilly forests of Abujhmarh has resulted in casualties on both sides.
Reports indicate that 8 Maoists have been killed, while one security personnel lost his life and two others sustained injuries during the operation.
Abujhmarh, known for its rugged terrain and dense forests, spans across Narayanpur, Bijapur, and Dantewada districts. It has long been a hotspot for Maoist activities, owing to its geographical isolation and limited accessibility.
The gunfight erupted this morning when a joint team of security personnel from Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada, and Kondagaon districts was conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the area. The operation, which commenced on June 12, involved units from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the 53rd battalion of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
According to PTI reports, the encounter has been ongoing for the past two days in the Narayanpur district. The security forces remain engaged in efforts to neutralize Maoist presence in the region, which continues to pose a significant challenge to state authorities.
