Wayanad Landslides: Death Toll Rises to 195 as Search Efforts Intensify

Wayanad Landslides – The recent devastating landslides in Wayanad district have resulted in 195 confirmed deaths, as stated by District Collector Meghashree D R on Friday

In addition to the bodies recovered, several body parts have also been found and are currently undergoing identification through genetic testing.

Kerala Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith Kumar reported earlier that approximately 300 individuals remain unaccounted for following the disaster.

By Thursday night, 190 bodies had been discovered, which included 76 women and 27 children, according to the district administration. Moreover, it was reported that 143 bodies and body parts retrieved from the section of the Chaliyar river passing through Malappuram have been transported to Wayanad for identification.

The district administration previously announced that 279 autopsies, including those of body parts, have been conducted, with 107 bodies successfully identified as of the previous day.

In response to the calamity, 9,328 residents have been displaced and are currently taking refuge in 91 relief camps set up across Wayanad.

Rescue teams continue to face challenging conditions, including waterlogged terrain, as they search the wreckage of homes and buildings for survivors and additional victims.
