Warrant Issued Against Producer Rajkumar Santoshi

The Saket District Court in Delhi issued a bailable warrant on Saturday against Rajkumar Santoshi, the producer of ‘Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh,’ for failing to appear in court in a cheque dishonor case filed by co-producer Jhoolan Prasad Gupta

Court Proceedings

Magistrate Aakash Sharma noted that Santoshi’s absence, despite being summoned, seemed intentional. “It appears that accused no. 2 has not appeared deliberately before the court today,” the order stated.

The case involves a ₹1 crore cheque issued by Santoshi to Gupta under an agreement for funding the film’s production.

Legal Representations and Arguments

Santoshi’s counsel requested an exemption from appearance, arguing that Santoshi received the summons only on July 2. However, Gupta’s counsel opposed the exemption. The Court observed that summons had also been served on Santoshi on April 14, indicating a deliberate failure to appear.

Court Order

Consequently, the Court issued bailable warrants of ₹10,000 against Santoshi, to be executed within 30 days and returnable on September 11.

Prior Conviction

Rajkumar Santoshi had previously been sentenced to two years in prison and fined ₹20 lakh on February 18 in another cheque dishonor case.

Legal Representation

Gupta was represented by advocate Sangeet Rai of Rayasa Law Partners, while Santoshi was represented by advocate Dilip Kumar.
