Business Tycoon James Michael Cline Dies by Suicide After Falling from Manhattan Hotel
James Michael Cline, a prominent finance executive and founder of the Fandango movie ticketing business, died by suicide at the age of 64 in Manhattan on Tuesday morning. According to a report by Variety, Mr. Cline jumped from the 20th floor of the Kimberly Hotel.
The New York Police Department stated that they responded to the incident at 10:19 am and found “an unconscious and unresponsive male with injuries indicative of a fall from an elevated position.” TMZ reported that Mr. Cline left a suicide note in his room.
After leaving Fandango, which is now owned by NBC Universal and Warner Bros, in 2011, Mr. Cline founded several companies through his Accretive company, including Accumen, Insureon, and Accolade. He also managed various tech companies and venture capital businesses, including the hedge fund Bridgewater Associates. He served as the executive chairman of Juxtapose, a company incubator that helped establish firms such as Orchard, Tend, Earned, Great Jones, and Nectar. Additionally, Mr. Cline was an advocate for animal protection and served as the chairman of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Mr. Cline graduated from Cornell University and obtained his MBA from Harvard Business School. He is survived by his wife, Pamela B. Cline, and their six children. According to reports, the Clines purchased a 5-bedroom lakefront house in Palm Beach for over $20 million in late 2020.
