Two Judicial Officers Set for Elevation: Collegium Nominates Singh and Pandey for Patna High Court

Collegium Recommends Two Judicial Officers for Elevation to Patna High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of two judicial officers, Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh and Ashok Kumar Pandey, as judges of the Patna High Court. This decision follows a resolution uploaded on the apex court’s official website.

The Patna High Court Collegium had initially forwarded the names to the Supreme Court Collegium on May 7 of this year. Both the Bihar Chief Minister and the Governor expressed their agreement with these recommendations.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure, the Collegium consulted Supreme Court judges familiar with the workings of the Patna High Court to assess the candidates’ fitness and suitability. Inputs from the Union Department of Justice were also taken into account.

Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh currently serves as the Registrar (Vigilance) of the High Court and has maintained a commendable personal and professional reputation, with no integrity concerns noted against him. Similarly, Ashok Kumar Pandey, who is the Director of the Bihar Judicial Academy, received favorable remarks from the Collegium.

While acknowledging that some senior judicial officers were being superseded in this process, the Collegium accepted the High Court’s reasoned justifications for the recommendations, ultimately finding both candidates suitable for judicial appointment.
