The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the suspect in the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump, according to a statement released today

Earlier, law enforcement officials had indicated that they had tentatively identified the suspect but were not yet ready to release his name publicly. The motive for the attack remains unclear. In his first detailed account of the attack, Trump stated, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.” He shared on his Truth Social site, “I immediately heard a whizzing sound and felt the bullet tearing through the skin. There was significant bleeding, and I quickly realized what was happening.” He expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their “rapid response.” “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country,” Trump remarked.
