Telangana CM Clarifies Comments on Kavitha Bail, Issues Formal Apology
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued a public apology on Friday, clarifying that his previous remarks questioning the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to BRS leader K. Kavitha were “taken out of context.”
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Reddy expressed his deep respect for the Indian judiciary and affirmed his faith in its decisions. He said, “I have the highest regard and full faith in the Indian Judiciary. Comments attributed to me regarding the bail decision have given the wrong impression that I am questioning the court’s wisdom.”
Reddy’s comments had previously sparked controversy after he compared the relatively quick bail granted to Kavitha, who was out on bail within five months, with the prolonged bail processes faced by other leaders such as AAP’s Manish Sisodia and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. He also suggested a potential quid-pro-quo between BRS and BJP due to BRS’s alleged support in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Supreme Court, led by Justices B.R. Gavai, Prashant Kumar Mishra, and K.V. Viswanathan, had rebuked Reddy for his statements, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the separation between judicial and executive functions. The Court reminded Reddy of a recent contempt notice issued to Maharashtra’s additional chief secretary for similar remarks.
Reddy’s apology comes in response to the Supreme Court’s stern reaction, underscoring his respect for the judiciary and the judicial process.
