Suraj Revanna Bail Application Rejected by Bengaluru Court in Sexual Abuse Case

A court in Bengaluru on Tuesday denied the bail application of Karnataka Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Suraj Revanna, elder son of HD Revanna and brother of Prajwal Revanna, in a sexual abuse case

Magistrate KN Shivakumar, who had reserved his decision on Suraj’s bail plea on July 4, rejected the application after considering the prosecution’s objections.

Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Naik had opposed the bail plea, arguing that there was prima facie evidence against Suraj and that the allegations were severe, warranting the maximum punishment of life imprisonment. Naik also expressed concerns that Suraj might tamper with evidence if released on bail.

Senior Advocate Aruna Shyam represented Suraj Revanna in the case.

The court’s detailed order has not yet been made public.

Suraj Revanna was arrested by the Hassan Police on June 23 following an interrogation on the previous day.

A first information report (FIR) was lodged against Suraj under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) based on a complaint from a youth. The complainant alleged that Suraj Revanna had engaged in non-consensual sexual intercourse with him at Gannigada Farm House in Channarayapatna taluk and reported the incident to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Home Minister.
