JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a male party worker
He was interrogated for several hours at the CEN police station in Hassan before being taken into custody.
Charges and Allegations
Suraj Revanna has been charged under IPC sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation). A 27-year-old party worker accused him of sodomizing him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada, Holenarasipura Taluk, on June 16. Suraj Revanna, 37, is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the nephew of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. He has strongly refuted the charges.
Counter-Complaint of Extortion
In a twist to the case, Suraj Revanna’s aide, Shivakumar, filed a counter-complaint against the accuser. Shivakumar alleged that the party worker and his relative tried to extort ₹5 crore from Revanna, threatening to file a false sexual assault case if the demand was not met. The demand was later lowered to ₹2 crore. According to the FIR, the complainant had sought employment assistance from Revanna six months ago and again in June but was told that it might be considered in the future.
Legal Actions Against Accusers
The police have also booked the complainant and his relative over their alleged extortion attempt.
Broader Context: Family Legal Troubles
Suraj Revanna’s younger brother, Prajwal Revanna, is currently in judicial custody on charges of sexually abusing women. Their father, JD(S) MLA HD Revanna, was arrested last month in a kidnapping case related to purported sex videos involving Prajwal Revanna but has since been released on bail.
