Supreme Court to Hear Plea for NEET PG 2024 Postponement Tomorrow
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea seeking the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) postgraduate examination for 2024 on Friday, August 9. The exam is currently scheduled to take place on August 11.
The case was brought to the attention of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud by advocate Anas Tanwir, representing the petitioner Vishal Soren. Tanwir requested an urgent listing of the case, to which the CJI directed the registry to schedule a hearing for the following day.
The plea contends that candidates are facing significant logistical challenges due to the allocation of exam centres in cities that are difficult to reach. The petition also raises concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the normalisation formula used for the four sets of question papers, which has caused anxiety among candidates about potential arbitrariness in the examination process.
The test centres were assigned on July 31, and the designated exam centres are to be announced on August 8. The short timeframe has left candidates with insufficient time to travel to their assigned centres. Additionally, the exam is set to be conducted in two batches, but the normalisation formula remains undisclosed, further contributing to candidates’ apprehension.
The petitioner has requested that the court stay the examination until the matter is resolved.
