Supreme Court to Consider Madhu Koda’s Stay Plea Ahead of State Elections

Coal Scam: Supreme Court to Hear Madhu Koda’s Plea for Stay on Conviction This Friday

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is set to hear former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda’s plea on Friday, requesting a stay on his conviction in a coal scam case to allow him to contest in the upcoming state Assembly elections.

A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar, and R. Mahadevan announced on Thursday that they had not yet reviewed the case files due to their late submission, hence the postponement to Friday. The bench instructed senior advocate R. S. Cheema, representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to examine a previous court ruling that highlights the different standards for suspending a sentence compared to those applicable in bail cases.
