Supreme Court Celebrates International Yoga Day with Special Session

On International Yoga Day, the Supreme Court hosted a unique yoga session at the Supreme Court Complex

The event saw participation from the Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court judges, Registry officials and staff, as well as members of the Executive Committee of the SCBA and SCAORA.

The session began with expert yoga instructors from Kaivalyadhama Institute leading the participants through various asanas. Following this, Advocate Tejaswi Kumar Sharma, a specially-abled, three-time international yoga champion, showcased an impressive series of yoga postures. Additionally, a team from the All India Institute of Ayurveda performed a yoga fusion dance, blending rhythmic movements with traditional yoga asanas.

Dr. Tanuja Nesari, Director of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, gave a presentation on the synergy between Yoga and Ayurveda, emphasizing the necessity of a holistic lifestyle.

Chief Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud concluded the event with an address highlighting the significance of yoga. He noted that International Yoga Day is not just a celebration, but a recognition of yoga’s role in maintaining a balanced life. Yoga, he said, merges physical exercise with spiritual practice. He emphasized four key principles in his Hindi speech: (i) ‘Siddhant’ or principles akin to the discipline of law; (ii) ‘Samanvay’ or inclusion; (iii) ‘Sadbhavana’ or fraternity and compassion; and (iv) ‘Sashaktikaran,’ which represents a journey from individual empowerment to global humanity.

The CJI underscored the importance of humility in practicing yoga, asserting that knowledge surpasses the individual who acquires it. He also shared his personal commitment to veganism, advocating for equal respect for all living beings.

The day also included a special cleanliness drive within the Supreme Court premises, marking the occasion with a focus on holistic well-being and environmental consciousness.
