BJP Leader Shazia Ilmi Sues Rajdeep Sardesai for Defamation Over Abusive Allegations
BJP leader Shazia Ilmi has filed a defamation suit against journalist Rajdeep Sardesai in the Delhi High Court. The case revolves around a video posted by Sardesai, accusing Ilmi of “abusing” an India Today video journalist.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora has instructed Sardesai and India Today to provide the complete, unedited video by Monday, with the next hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The Court also directed Ilmi’s lawyer to serve the petition copy to Sardesai and India Today.
Advocate Natasha Garg, representing Ilmi, claimed that the video remains online and has led to derogatory comments and trolling against her. She requested the Court to make Sardesai’s tweets private until the matter is heard, but the request was denied.
The controversy began after a July 26 debate on India Today, where Ilmi clashed with Sardesai during a discussion on Kargil Vijay Diwas and the Agniveer scheme. The argument escalated, and Ilmi left the show, later accusing Sardesai on Twitter of manipulating her audio during the broadcast.
Sardesai subsequently posted a video alleging that Ilmi had mistreated the India Today video journalist at her home, which he stated was unacceptable behavior.
