The brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor inside a seminar hall at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital has raised new suspicions. Some of her colleagues now believe that the victim might have been targeted because she knew too much about sensitive issues within the hospital.
The young doctor was discovered dead hours after she had gone to the seminar hall to rest. Diary entries found among her belongings reveal that she was under severe work pressure, often working up to 36 hours consecutively. Reports indicate that her colleagues had expressed concerns about the prevalent punishment postings and demanding shifts at the state-run hospital.
One colleague questioned how Sanjoy Roy, the accused, knew that the doctor would be alone in the hall. This has led to speculation that Roy might be part of a larger conspiracy involving more influential figures. “We suspect this was not a straightforward case of rape and murder. She was clearly targeted. How did the accused know she was alone?” the colleague remarked.
Further fueling these concerns, another colleague suggested that the victim might have been aware of a potential drug siphoning racket within her department that she was trying to expose. The victim’s parents also informed the police that she had complained about intense work pressure and possibly uncovered something troubling in her department.
In response to the case, the CBI has questioned the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, seeking details about his actions and reactions on the night of the crime. The agency is verifying his statements with those of doctors, interns, and nurses who were present at the hospital during the incident.
The post-mortem report revealed that the doctor suffered severe genital torture before being strangled to death. Blood was reported to be oozing from her eyes, mouth, and private parts.
