Ratan Tata, former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away on Thursday at the age of 86.
The renowned industrialist was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after experiencing a sudden drop in blood pressure. His condition worsened, leading to his transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Just days earlier, on October 7, Tata addressed health rumors via social media, reassuring his followers that there was no serious cause for concern. He explained that his hospitalization was due to routine medical check-ups related to age-related conditions. “I am currently undergoing check-ups for age-related medical issues. There is no need to worry. I am in good spirits,” Tata wrote, urging the public and media to avoid spreading misinformation.
Ratan Tata and Low Blood Pressure Concerns
Earlier reports indicated that Tata was hospitalized after a significant drop in his blood pressure. According to Dr. Pratyush Mehra from Delhi, sudden blood pressure drops, like the one Tata experienced, can arise from multiple factors. Common causes include orthostatic hypotension, which occurs when standing up too quickly, and dehydration, which affects blood volume. Additionally, certain medications for high blood pressure or heart conditions may have side effects that lead to these drops.
Ratan Tata’s Legacy: Marking the End of an Era
Ratan Tata’s impact on the Tata Group is unparalleled. He assumed the role of chairman of Tata Sons in 1991, guiding the conglomerate founded by his great-grandfather for over two decades until his retirement in 2012. Under his leadership, Tata Teleservices was established in 1996, expanding the group’s presence in telecommunications. Another notable achievement was taking Tata Consultancy Services public in 2004, further cementing the company’s status in the IT sector.
Tata’s contributions shaped India’s corporate landscape and earned him immense admiration. His leadership not only propelled the Tata Group to new heights but also inspired millions across the country, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
