Rajasthan High Court Grants Bail to Accused in Udaipur Tailor’s Murder

The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday granted bail to Mohammed Javed, an accused in the 2022 killing of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal

Javed was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on July 22, 2022, in connection with the brutal murder of Kanhaiya Lal on June 28, 2022. Riyaz Attari and Ghous Mohammed, who carried out the beheading, filmed the act and threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the video. They were arrested shortly after the crime.

The NIA alleges that Javed played a key role in the conspiracy by conducting surveillance and informing the killers of Kanhaiya Lal’s presence at his shop before the attack.

The plot to kill Kanhaiya Lal, inspired by ISIS-style beheading, was reportedly planned on June 20. Ghous Mohammed claimed that he volunteered to carry out the murder during a meeting, with others agreeing to provide post-crime support.

Investigations have also uncovered a connection to the Pakistan-based Dawat-e-Islami organization, which Ghous Mohammed visited in 2014. Dawat-e-Islami advocates for Sharia law globally and has a strong presence in Pakistan, supporting the country’s blasphemy laws. Mohammed had also visited Saudi Arabia for Umrah in 2013 and 2019.
