Qatar Airways Flight to Dublin Experiences Severe Turbulence, 12 Injured

Approximately 12 individuals sustained injuries during a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Ireland, Dublin Airport reported on Sunday. The injuries occurred due to turbulence, though the flight landed safely and on schedule.

Flight QR017, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, touched down shortly before 1 PM Dublin time, according to the airport.

“Emergency services, including Airport Police and our Fire and Rescue department, met the aircraft upon landing due to 6 passengers and 6 crew members reporting injuries from turbulence experienced while flying over Turkey,” Dublin Airport stated.

This incident occurred just five days after a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore made an emergency landing in Bangkok due to severe turbulence. That event tragically resulted in the death of a 73-year-old British man and left 20 others in intensive care.

A 2021 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board identified turbulence-related accidents as the most frequent type of airline incident. Between 2009 and 2018, the agency found that turbulence accounted for over a third of reported airline accidents. While most incidents resulted in serious injuries, the aircraft typically sustained no damage.
