Pune Porsche Accident Case: Pune Court Grants Bail to Relatives of Teen

Pune Porsche Accident Case: The father and grandfather of a 17-year-old boy who killed two people while driving a Porsche have been granted bail by a Pune court

They were accused of kidnapping and confining their family driver, according to a report by PTI

Allegations and Arrest

The two were accused of confining the driver against his will and attempting to bribe him with money and gifts to take responsibility for the accident that occurred on May 19. They were charged under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On May 31, they were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

The Accident

The juvenile, son of a prominent Pune builder, collided with a motorcycle while driving a Porsche in Kalyani Nagar. The impact dragged one of the motorcyclists, and the car eventually stopped after hitting another two-wheeler and a car. He faced charges of rash and negligent driving, causing harm by endangering lives, and death by negligence under Sections 304A, 279, 337, and 338 of the IPC, along with provisions of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act.

Legal Proceedings

The boy’s father was also charged under Sections 75 (wilful neglect of a child, exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses) and 77 (supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs) of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. He secured bail on June 28.

High Court’s Intervention

On June 24, the Bombay High Court ordered the release of the minor from an observation home. Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) had released the boy under parental supervision soon after the accident, but his bail was later revoked, leading to his detention in the observation home. The High Court ruled that the detention order was illegal and issued without proper jurisdiction, thus placing the boy in the custody of his paternal aunt.
