A group of protesters gathered outside the CBI office at the CGO Complex on Sunday morning as officers escorted Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, for a routine medical examination following his arrest in the RG Kar hospital medic’s rape-murder case.
The demonstrators, carrying placards and posters, demanded justice for the deceased woman doctor and criticized the police’s initial handling of the case before it was transferred to the CBI.
Mondal was taken into custody on Saturday evening as part of the ongoing CBI investigation into the RG Kar hospital incident. He is set to appear before the Sealdah court on Sunday. The protesters clashed with CBI officers as they departed the complex with Mondal.
An official stated that Mondal was arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence, delaying the registration of an FIR, and other related charges. The body of the postgraduate woman doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The CBI is now leading the investigation into her alleged rape and murder, following an order by the Calcutta High Court.
