Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the Quad as a significant platform for like-minded nations committed to fostering peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region as he began a three-day visit to the United States.
This trip includes attending a summit of the Quad grouping and addressing a crucial conclave at the United Nations.
During his visit, Modi will engage in separate bilateral discussions with US President Joe Biden and other global leaders at the Quad summit in Wilmington, Delaware, and the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York. His agenda also features participation in an Indian diaspora event on Long Island and a roundtable discussion with CEOs from American companies involved in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
“I look forward to joining my colleagues—President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese, and Prime Minister Kishida—at the Quad Summit,” Modi stated before his departure. He noted that the forum has become an essential group for advancing peace, progress, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
Modi expressed optimism that his meeting with President Biden would help evaluate and establish new pathways to deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for mutual benefit and global good. The annual Quad summit, taking place in Biden’s hometown, is expected to introduce various initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
The Quad leaders are also anticipated to launch a “milestone” initiative focused on cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and support for affected patients and their families. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that the summit will concentrate on peace, progress, and stability in the Indo-Pacific, addressing cooperation in health security, climate change, emerging technologies, infrastructure, connectivity, and counterterrorism.
After the summit in Wilmington, Modi will head to New York for the Indian community event on Long Island on September 22 and will address the Summit of the Future at the UN the following day. “I am eager to engage with the Indian diaspora and influential American business leaders, who play a vital role in the dynamic partnership between the largest and oldest democracies,” Modi remarked.
He described the ‘Summit of the Future’ as a chance for the global community to outline a better path for humanity. “I will represent the views of one-sixth of the world’s population, whose stakes in achieving a peaceful and secure future are among the highest,” he added. The summit aims to bring together leaders from various nations to build a new international consensus for creating a better present and safeguarding the future, as stated by the UN.
