JD(S) Suspends MP Prajwal Revanna Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations; Arrest Upon Arrival in India Expected
Prajwal Revanna, the suspended JD(S) Member of Parliament from Hassan, Karnataka, is set to return to India on May 31, as per Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara’s announcement on Thursday. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is prepared to arrest him upon his arrival.
Reports indicate that Prajwal Revanna has booked a business-class ticket for Lufthansa’s Munich-Bengaluru flight, scheduled to land at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at 1:30 am on May 31.
Upon landing, Prajwal Revanna will be detained by immigration officials and handed over to the SIT, given the lookout notice against him.
Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has initiated steps to revoke Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that a show cause notice was issued to Prajwal Revanna on May 23, providing him ten working days to respond.
In the event that Prajwal Revanna fails to return, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara asserted that his passport will be cancelled. He emphasized that Prajwal Revanna will face arrest upon his return, with the legal process to follow.
Addressing the press, Minister Parameshwara clarified that a warrant has been issued against Prajwal Revanna, and it is the responsibility of the SIT to execute it.
Regarding Prajwal Revanna’s statement in a video that he will appear before the SIT on May 31, Minister Parameshwara expressed confidence in his return.
If Prajwal Revanna does not return, the Karnataka government will request the Indian government to cancel his passport through Interpol via the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Interpol recently issued a Blue Corner notice against Prajwal Revanna following the release of a video allegedly involving him in sexual abuse, recorded in Hungary.
The sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal Revanna surfaced after pen drives containing explicit videos purportedly involving him were circulated in Hassan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on April 26.
The allegations prompted widespread protests in Karnataka, with demonstrators demanding justice and accountability. The ‘Namma Nadige, Hassanada Kadega’ (Our march towards Hassan) protest rally witnessed participation from various civil society groups, advocating for Prajwal Revanna’s arrest and expressing solidarity with the victims.
