A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Delhi High Court, demanding a high-level investigation into the recent deaths of three civil services aspirants caused by flooding at a UPSC coaching centre in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi
The tragedy occurred after heavy rains led to severe water-logging at the training facility.
A Bench consisting of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela is scheduled to hear the matter tomorrow. Advocate Rudra Vikram Singh, who brought the PIL to the Court’s attention, noted, “If the files are in order by 12:30 PM, list the matter tomorrow,” as directed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan.
The PIL, filed by the organization Kutumb, calls for an inquiry into the incident and has named the Delhi government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) as respondents. The petition alleges that the deaths resulted from corruption and failures by the city’s civic authorities.
According to a report by NDTV, the incident occurred at a building in Rajendra Nagar that houses a branch of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, a well-known coaching institute for civil services aspirants. The institute’s library, located in the basement, was inundated during the heavy rainfall.
The three deceased aspirants have been identified as Tania Soni (25), Shreya Yadav (25), and Navin Delvin (28).
