Oudh Bar Association Demands Justice: Calls for Transfer of High Court Judge Over Advocate Mistreatment

Oudh Bar Association Calls for High Court Judge’s Transfer Amid Allegations of Advocate Mistreatment

The Oudh Bar Association of the Allahabad High Court has formally requested the transfer of Justice Sangeeta Chandra, citing her alleged mistreatment of advocate members during court proceedings. In a letter addressed to Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, General Secretary Advocate Manoj Kumar Dwivedi outlined multiple complaints against Justice Chandra, focusing on her “verbal inhumane treatment” of advocates.

The Association highlighted a recent incident involving a confrontation between Justice Chandra and Senior Advocate SC Mishra during a hearing on September 28. The letter details how Justice Chandra initiated criminal contempt proceedings against Mishra for shouting at the Bench after the court denied his request for an interim order.

Senior Advocate JN Mathur, representing the respondents, reportedly urged Justice Chandra to reconsider her decision to initiate contempt proceedings, but she refused. The altercation has raised serious concerns within the Bar Association regarding the dignity of the judicial process and the treatment of advocates in the courtroom.
