Union Budget 2024: Sources Suggest Nirmala Sitharaman Could Present Union Budget in Parliament on July 22

According to sources, Nirmala Sitharaman is likely to table the Union Budget in Parliament on July 22, marking her as the first finance minister to present seven consecutive Union Budgets.

This achievement surpasses the record of Morarji Desai, who had presented six budgets in a row.

Earlier this week, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha would commence on June 24 and conclude on July 3. During this session, newly elected members of the Lower House will take their oaths, and the Speaker will be elected. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 27, likely outlining the new government’s agenda for the next five years.

The initial three days of the first session will primarily involve newly elected leaders taking oaths and the election of the House Speaker.

Rijiju further stated that the 264th Session of Rajya Sabha will begin on June 27 and end on July 3. Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to introduce his council of ministers to Parliament following the President’s address on June 27.

Subsequently, the prime minister will participate in debates on the Motion of Thanks concerning the President’s address in both Houses of Parliament.
