Muslim Side Moves Supreme Court Over Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Dispute

The Muslim side has approached the Supreme Court to challenge an Allahabad High Court decision that dismissed their plea contesting the validity of 18 cases tied to the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute in Mathura

The mosque management committee filed the petition through advocate RHA Sikander, with the case expected to be heard next week.

On August 1, the high court rejected the Muslim side’s challenge to the maintainability of the cases, stating that the “religious character” of the Shahi Idgah must be determined. The court also dismissed claims that the suits filed by Hindu petitioners regarding the dispute between the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple and the adjacent mosque violated the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, thereby ruling the cases maintainable.
