Mukhtar Ansari, Infamous Politician and Former Gangster, Passes Away in Banda Jail

Uttar Pradesh Authorities Heighten Security Measures Amidst Concerns Following Mukhtar Ansari’s Demise

Mukhtar Ansari, a former gangster who later became a politician, passed away on Thursday due to cardiac arrest while in Banda jail. According to prison authorities, Ansari was found unconscious in his cell and was immediately taken to Banda Medical College, where he later died during treatment. His death has prompted the Uttar Pradesh police to enforce Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) across the state to prevent large gatherings.

Earlier in the week, Ansari had complained of health issues and was briefly hospitalized. There were concerns raised by his lawyer about his well-being, alleging possible mistreatment in jail.

Ansari had a long history with the law, facing numerous cases and convictions, dating back to 2005. He was serving sentences in various jails for offenses ranging from murder to gang-related activities. Most notably, he was recently sentenced to life imprisonment in a case involving fraudulent acquisition of an arms license in 1990. He had also been convicted in other cases, including murder and gangster-related charges.

Despite his criminal background, Ansari had a political career, having been elected as an MLA multiple times from the Mau constituency. However, his political career was marred by controversies and legal troubles.

His death marks the end of a tumultuous life that saw him transition from a notorious gangster to a prominent political figure in Uttar Pradesh.
