“Modi Government Approves ₹28,602 Crore Plan for 12 New Industrial Cities Across 10 States”

“Project to Generate 10 Lakh Direct Jobs, Boost India’s Manufacturing Sector”

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to 12 new projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), with a projected investment of ₹28,602 crore. These industrial cities are set to be established across 10 states, including key locations like Khurpia in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh, and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan. The site of the 12th city was not disclosed due to the model code of conduct during the assembly elections, but it is speculated to be either in Haryana or Jammu & Kashmir.

These industrial nodes are aimed at creating manufacturing hubs across India, designed as smart cities following the ‘plug-n-play’ and ‘walk-to-work’ models. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that the initiative is expected to generate 10 lakh direct jobs and 30 lakh indirect employment opportunities, accelerating India’s shift as a global manufacturing destination. The NICDP is aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and will support large industries as well as MSMEs, contributing to India’s goal of reaching $2 trillion in exports by 2030.
