Kolkata Police Summon BJP Leader Locket Chatterjee and Two Doctors for Allegedly Spreading Rumors in Rape-Murder Case
The Kolkata Police have issued summons to BJP leader Locket Chatterjee and two prominent doctors, Dr. Kunal Sarkar and Dr. Subarna Goswami, for allegedly spreading false information and disclosing the identity of a woman doctor who was raped and murdered at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Along with these three individuals, the police have summoned 57 others implicated in disseminating misinformation about the incident.
Dr. Kunal Sarkar, a noted cardiologist, confirmed receiving the summons but noted he is currently out of town. He speculated that his social media comments might have triggered the police action. Dr. Subarna Goswami, the deputy chief medical officer of Purba Bardhaman district, stated he has not yet received any formal notice but expressed his readiness to cooperate with the investigation, denying any involvement in spreading rumors or revealing the victim’s identity.
Locket Chatterjee, meanwhile, has not received a summons and expressed frustration with the perceived lack of progress in the case. She emphasized that promptness in the investigation would be more beneficial.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has criticized the widespread rumor-mongering, which he claims has impeded the investigation and created law and order issues.
