CM Hemant Soren’s Plea Verdict Delay Raises Questions by Kapil Sibal
During proceedings before a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Soren, highlighted that despite the high court reserving its verdict on February 28 regarding his plea, no decision has been forthcoming.
Soren, who resigned as the Jharkhand chief minister and was succeeded by party loyalist and state transport minister Champai Soren, was arrested on January 31 in connection with the case. His arrest followed a seven-hour interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The ED’s investigation focuses on the alleged generation of significant proceeds of crime through the manipulation of official records. This manipulation involved the use of dummy sellers and purchasers, facilitated by forged or bogus documents, to acquire extensive land parcels valued in crores.
