President Appoints Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal as Additional Judge for J&K and Ladakh High Court
The President of India appointed Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal as an Additional Judge of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh for a one-year term starting from June 3.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, Justice Nargal’s appointment was made under Article 224(1) of the Constitution of India.
The recommendation for Justice Nargal’s extension was made by the Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on April 24. The extension was proposed for another year as an additional judge.
In February, the High Court Collegium of J&K and Ladakh had suggested Justice Nargal’s appointment as an Additional Judge due to the absence of a vacancy for a Permanent Judge.
The SC Collegium’s decision was based on an assessment of Justice Nargal’s judgments, which were rated as “good” by a committee of two Supreme Court judges. The Collegium also reviewed feedback from consultee judges familiar with the affairs of the J&K and Ladakh HC.
Taking into account all relevant factors, the SC Collegium recommended Justice Nargal’s appointment as an Additional Judge for a fresh one-year term starting June 3, 2024.
