Justice Rajiv Shakdher was formally sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday.
The oath of office was administered by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan.
Justice Shakdher’s tenure as Chief Justice will be brief, as he is set to retire on October 18.
State Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena officiated the proceedings, including the reading of the appointment warrant issued by the President of India.
Born on October 19, 1962, Justice Shakdher holds degrees in BCom (Hons), Chartered Accountancy, and LLB. He was admitted to the bar on November 19, 1987, and built a practice focusing on civil, constitutional, taxation, and corporate law before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. His judicial career began with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 11, 2008. He was later made a Permanent Judge on October 17, 2011. Justice Shakdher also served at the Madras High Court after being transferred there on April 11, 2016, before returning to the Delhi High Court on January 15, 2018.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Lady Governor Janaki Shukla, cabinet ministers Chander Kumar, Vikramaditya Singh, and Rajesh Dharmani, along with judges from both the Himachal Pradesh and Delhi High Courts. Other notable attendees included state Congress President Pratibha Singh, BJP State President Rajiv Bindal, Advocate General Anup Kumar Rattan, and DGP Atul Verma.
