Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Extension for Justice Rajesh Sekhri as Additional Judge of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court
Previously, on April 23, the High Court Collegium of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh recommended Justice Rajesh Sekhri’s reappointment as an Additional Judge due to the lack of available positions for Permanent Judges. Following the Memorandum of Procedure, the Supreme Court Collegium consulted its members familiar with the High Court’s operations.
A committee of two judges evaluated Justice Sekhri’s judgments, praising them as well-reasoned and grounded in thorough factual analysis and appropriate case laws.
After reviewing the relevant materials to determine the merit and suitability of the appointment, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended extending his term from July 29 of this year.
Justice Sekhri initially became an Additional Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court following Notification No. K-13021/01/2021-US-II on July 27, 2022, and he assumed office on July 29, 2022.
Born in Jammu, Sekhri completed his schooling at S D Sabha Higher Secondary School and graduated from Government Gandhi Memorial Science College. He earned his LLB from the University of Jammu in 1989. Passing the KCS Judicial exam, he began his judicial career as a Munsiff in 1995, advancing to Sub-Judge in 1998 and District and Sessions Judge in 2008.
Sekhri attained Selection Grade in 2014 (effective from June 2013) and reached the Super Time Scale in 2017. His roles included serving as CJM in Rajouri and Kargil, Special Judge of the TADA/POTA Court in Srinagar, Additional District Judge in Anantnag and Jammu, and Principal District Judge in Reasi, Ramban, and Baramulla. Additionally, he was the Special Judge for Anti-Corruption CBI Cases.
