JSA Welcomes Arun Kumar and Deepak Chowdhury from IndusLaw, Expanding Capabilities in Gurugram and Hyderabad

JSA Advocates & Solicitors is enhancing its projects, infrastructure, and real estate sectors by bringing on board partners Arun Kumar and Deepak Chowdhury from IndusLaw, along with their teams, in Gurugram and Hyderabad.

With over 18 years of experience, Arun Kumar specializes in projects, construction, and real estate, providing guidance on acquisitions, divestments, and joint ventures across various industries, including airports, ports, highways, urban infrastructure, renewable energy, and real estate development. He joins JSA with a team of seven lawyers and is recognized as a ‘Leading Lawyer’ in Projects & Energy by The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific. Additionally, he holds a ranking in Chambers & Partners Global Guide 2024 for Projects, Infrastructure & Energy, showcasing his expertise in pre-bid advisory, tender documentation, and project contracts, including engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) agreements for public-private partnerships (PPP).

The legal sector is currently experiencing a heightened demand for seasoned lawyers, particularly in areas such as mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity (PE), disputes, and competition law. To adapt, firms are evolving their traditional partnership structures amidst a competitive talent landscape marked by high turnover rates.

Earlier this year, JSA expanded its team by hiring Nisha Kaur Uberoi from Trilegal, along with two partners and 25 attorneys, enhancing their expertise in complex areas like merger control and cartels. They also welcomed partners Iqbal Khan and Ambarish from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, accompanied by a team of 18-20 lawyers.

Industry experts emphasize the need for firms to reassess their growth strategies in light of these changes. Chandy noted that firms that historically concentrated profits among a select few partners are now realizing the importance of distributing rewards more fairly to acknowledge the contributions of all lawyers, which is crucial for retaining top talent.

As the legal landscape continues to shift, leading firms are being urged to refocus their strategies on talent acquisition and retention while enhancing communication from leadership to navigate these challenging times effectively.
