The Haryana government has ordered a 24-hour suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Nuh district, starting from 6 pm on Sunday until 6 pm on Monday
This measure precedes the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, which was marred by violence last year.
The decision, issued by Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi, aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumors through social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. The order cites concerns over potential unrest, property damage, and public disturbances in Nuh district.
In addition to the internet suspension, tight security arrangements have been implemented by the Nuh Police to ensure a peaceful Yatra. The security measures come in response to the violence that occurred on July 31 of the previous year, when a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh was met with violent opposition from a mob. The clash resulted in the deaths of two home guards and injuries to at least 15 others, including several police officers.
On the same night, a mosque in Gurugram was attacked by a separate mob, leading to the killing of its naib imam. The violence, which claimed at least six lives and left many injured, had prompted criticism of the BJP government, then led by Manohar Khattar, from opposition parties.
