A special court in Bengaluru has granted bail to HD Revanna, a Karnataka Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), who is implicated in a high-profile sexual abuse case involving both him and his son, Prajwal Revanna, a Lok Sabha member.
Judge J Preeth of the Special MP/MLA Court allowed the bail on the condition that HD Revanna executes a personal bond of ₹5 lakh, supported by two sureties, and fully cooperates with the ongoing investigation.
Case Background and Allegations
The allegations against Prajwal Revanna came to light following the circulation of over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of multiple women on social media. Subsequently, on April 28, a first information report (FIR) was lodged against both Prajwal and HD Revanna at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district. The charges include sexual harassment (Section 354A), stalking (Section 354D), criminal intimidation (Section 506), and insulting the modesty of a woman (Section 509) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The case was initiated following a complaint by one of the victims. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer BK Singh, has been tasked with probing the allegations. Amid the ensuing public outrage and political controversy, Prajwal Revanna reportedly fled to Germany shortly after the April 26 Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka.
Legal Representation and Previous Bail
Senior Advocate CV Nagesh represented HD Revanna in the bail proceedings, while Additional Special Government Prosecutors Ashok Naik and Jayna Kothari represented the prosecution. HD Revanna was previously granted bail in a related kidnapping case connected to the sexual abuse allegations against his son.
