Gujarat High Court Unveils Med-Arb Centre for Enhanced Dispute Resolution

Gujarat High Court Launches Med-Arb Centre to Accelerate Dispute Resolution

In a notable advancement in alternative dispute resolution, the Gujarat High Court Arbitration Centre has launched a Med-Arb (Mediation-Arbitration) Centre on August 15. Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal inaugurated the centre following the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony, with the event attended by High Court Justices, specially trained mediators, and legal experts.

Med-Arb combines mediation and arbitration, allowing for a more integrated approach to resolving disputes. This method, which involves mediation as a preliminary step before arbitration, aims to expedite the resolution of conflicts referred for arbitration.

Earlier this year, the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) facilitated an orientation and training program for eleven advocates specializing in commercial and arbitration cases. These advocates have been trained by expert mediators and will now serve as mediators at the newly established Med-Arb Centre.

Chief Justice Agarwal emphasized that integrating mediation into arbitration processes could significantly accelerate dispute resolution, particularly for commercial disputes.

The inauguration was followed by a cultural program, “Muskan,” showcasing the talents of differently abled children.
