Gauhati High Court Cancels APSC’s 2016 Selection of District Malaria Officers After Eight-Year Delay

Gauhati High Court Overturns Selection of 14 District Malaria Officers by APSC After Long Delay

GUWAHATI: In a significant ruling, the Gauhati High Court on Friday annulled the selection of 14 District Malaria Officers made by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) back in 2016. A division bench, led by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice N. Unni Krishnan Nair, concluded that, given the eight-year gap since the APSC released its select list and the absence of any appointments, it was prudent to void the entire selection process for these crucial positions.

The controversy traces back to an advertisement issued by the APSC on December 15, 2012, which called for applications to fill various roles, including the 14 District Malaria Officer posts under the Assam Health and Family Welfare department. The court’s decision underscores the importance of timely appointments and the need for the APSC to streamline its selection process to avoid such prolonged uncertainties in the future.
