Delhi High Court Rules Against RTI Disclosure of Special Branch Manual
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has ruled that the Special Branch manual, which contains sensitive and confidential information, is not subject to disclosure under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Justice Sanjeev Narula stated that revealing such details would not only undermine the operations of the Special Branch of Delhi Police but could also jeopardize ongoing and future investigations. The court classified this information as ‘exempted’ under the provisions of the RTI Act.
The ruling came in response to a petition requesting access to a certified copy of the complete Special Branch manual, along with annexures and the latest notifications regarding passport verification as of February 3, 2016. The court ultimately dismissed the petition.
