In the Largest Ever Team Exodus CAM snaps Manan Lahoty and His Team of 60 lawyers from IndusLaw

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) Makes Historic Move with the onboarding of 60-Lawyer Capital Markets Team from IndusLaw Led by Manan Lahoty

In a landmark development for India’s legal sector, CAM has announced the acquisition of a 60-member capital markets team from IndusLaw, marking the largest group hire of the year in the Indian legal market. This move includes eight partners, with Manan Lahoty at the helm, and is set to significantly bolster CAM’s capital markets practice.

Manan Lahoty, who has been a partner at IndusLaw since 2019, brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous tenure at Luthra & Luthra, where he spent a decade as a partner. Under his leadership, the team has advised on some of the most notable transactions in both domestic and international capital markets. Noteworthy deals include the IPO of Coal India, one of the largest in India, Zomato’s landmark IPO as the first consumer tech unicorn listing, the CPSE Exchange Traded Fund—the first of its kind in India—and the major stake sale by Daiichi in Sun Pharmaceutical.

The departure of key figures, such as practice leader Vijay Parthasarathi and partner Vinay Sirohia to Trilegal, capital markets partner Abhinav Kumar to Talwar Thakore & Associates.

The acquisition of IndusLaw’s premier team is seen as a decisive step by CAM to reinforce its position in the capital markets arena and mitigate the impact of these recent departures.

IndusLaw, meanwhile, apart from Lahoty’s team, has experienced a series of significant exits recently as well including Disputes Partner Padmaja Kaul and Akhil Anand and their teams moving to JSA, while Avik Biswas and Vaibhav Bhardwaj left to join Khaitan & Co as partners in the firm’s Employment, Labour, and Benefits practice, along with their teams.

Up until July 2024, the legal industry has witnessed a series of unprecedented moves. Notable examples include Iqbal Khan’s shift to JSA with his team of 20 attorneys, Nisha Kaur Uberoi’s departure from Trilegal to join JSA with her team of 30 lawyers, and now Manan Lahoty’s dramatic transition, marking some of the largest shifts in recent years within law firms.
