Calcutta High Court Grants Exemption from Advocate Gowns Amid Heatwave
Amidst the prevailing heatwave in Kolkata, where temperatures have surged above 42 degrees Celsius, the Calcutta High Court has issued a notification granting exemption to lawyers from wearing advocate gowns during the summer months. This decision aligns with similar directives previously issued by other High Courts, including the Karnataka HC, considering the escalating temperatures.
Acting upon the instructions of Chief Justice Sivagnanam, the Registrar General of the High Court issued a notice today, stating, “It is hereby notified for information of all concerned that, upon consideration of the ongoing inclement weather combined with the heatwave, the Hon’ble the Chief Justice has been pleased to direct as follows: Taking note of the weather, wearing of Advocates’ gown is exempted till the Court reopens after Summer Vacation on 10.06.2024.”
This move aims to provide relief to lawyers amidst the sweltering heat until the resumption of regular court proceedings after the summer break.
