CA Exams Proceed as Scheduled Despite Plea for Postponement Due to Election Clash
On Monday, the Delhi High Court dismissed a plea requesting the postponement of Chartered Accountants (CA) exams to June to avoid clashing with the Lok Sabha elections. The plea, filed by a group of 27 CA aspirants, was rejected by Justice C Hari Shankar.
Justice Hari Shankar emphasized that the inconvenience faced by candidates during the exams couldn’t justify derailing the entire exam schedule, which accommodates around 4.26 lakh aspirants. He noted that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) had proactively ensured that candidates’ right to vote wasn’t compromised due to the exams.
The court found the petition lacking in substance and therefore rejected it. The candidates argued that the exam schedule overlapped with the Lok Sabha elections, violating their rights under Articles 14, 21, and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution.
ICAI contended that rescheduling the exams for the second week of June would disrupt the entire exam process and assured that no exams were scheduled on the polling dates.
In essence, the Delhi High Court upheld the original exam schedule, stating that accommodating the plea would disrupt the exam process without sufficient justification.
